First of all, a m
assive well done and many thanks to all that were involved with 'Half a Sixpence' and also many thanks to all the audience members who came along to support the show.
I'm sure great fun and enjoyment was had by all! However, we must now think ahead to the future, and to our next production which is Marguerite.
The Company Secretary - Tony Matthews has kindly written a short synopsis. So check it out!
MARGUERITE
If you’d like the chance to appear in a modern West End show, go along to Ramsgate Operatic Society on Thursday 1st December. Marguerite is a musical from the team who created Les Miserablesand Miss Saigon, with book by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Jonathan Kent. Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and music by Michel Legrand.
A love story set in Paris during the Second World War, Marguerite draws inspiration from one of the greatest of romantic novels, La Dame aux Camellias, by Alexandre Dumas. Marguerite is the beautiful and notorious mistress of a high ranking German officer. Armand is a young musician half her age who falls obsessively in love with her. Their dangerous love story is played out against the background of Occupied Paris.
The three main leads are Marguerite (playing age 40), Armand (playing age 25 – 30) and Otto (playing age 40 plus). The show has an excellent balance of parts for younger and older actors and provides a rare opportunity for amateur companies to perform a modern West End musical (it was at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, London in 2008). It will be the only production of the show licenced for 2012!
Rehearsals on Thursdays at St. Ethelbert’s Church Hall, Hereson Road, Ramsgate at 7.30. Check the ROS website: www.ramsgateoperaticsociety.co.uk
